Customize your Dream Cabin! Durward Gross was born in 1958 in Clark County IL. Has never lived more than 5 miles from his birth place. Has worked several jobs throughout his career, including farming and construction. With his carpentry skills, he built his own cabin in 1998, and has since built 4 other cabins. The cabins are built using 6x8" hand selected timbers, which can be as long as 16 feet. The timbers are overlapped, with 12" spikes securing them in place. The interior of his cabins are finished using different types of wood, giving the cabin a raw, earthy feel. Some of the wood utilized to finish out his cabins were actually derived from the trees where the cabin stands. Durward has a unique under- standing of the building methods of old, and applies them in the structure and details of his cabins. When you enter a prairie style cabin, you can't help but feel the strength and density of the timbers, and appreciate the hours of meticulous craftsmanship.
When Durward is not building cabins, he can be found shelling corn among many other tasks.
